Friends, it’s officially sweat rag season. The coming months will be all about sweating off your makeup, loading up on SPF, and ducking from one air-conditioned space to another in the hopes of avoiding heat stroke. Thankfully, this is also the time of year when many of us get most excited about going to the movies. Part of that is the air conditioning and giant sodas, but also, there’s something special about a trip to the cinema this time of year. Pick the right movie and the right crew, and you can almost approximate the joy of teenage summer vacation vibes — a high I, at least, am forever chasing.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there are a lot of punk, pop punk, and scene-adjacent movies both in theaters and in the works right now. Maybe it’s because touring pays less than it used to, or maybe some of our favorite musicians are starting to feel wistful as they age. Whatever the reason, you know something is going on when Green Day and Travis Barker are releasing movies back to back. (Those boys will never stop competing, will they?)
